G'Day

Im going to be in tacloban from the 23rd Dec up till 2nd Jan. Im looking at renting a car for part of my stay as i wish to do some driving. Im not looking for a car with a driver as i enjoy driving on the wrong side of the road as i drive a right hand drive car not left. I could be looking at having the car for 3 or 4 days if the price is right. The last time i was around that way i was with a friend going to limasawa island using vanvan.
I seen so much and i wanted to stop but as i was not driving i could not ask for him to stop for me. This is why im looking for car so i can stop and take lots of photos.

So i hope someone will come in and read this post as the forum is kind of dead right now.

Hi Villan,

:signwelcome: to the forums. I hope you'll have a nice stay in Tacloban this coming december with your family.

Regarding your request: I suppose you have already seen the car rental companies / shuttle services on this site over here:
http://www.taclobanhotels.com/RENT-A-CAR.htm

As far as I know the car rental companies in Tacloban always provide a driver to their cars, because it's part of their policies.

But I'm sure if you'll talk to them that you can negotiate some compromise and which ever shuttle service you choose you can always talk to the driver and he'll drive you wherever you want and stop if you want to make some sightseeing as long as you pay the gasoline.

Btw, our forum here is not "kind of dead", it's just new as we're having some kind of relaunch now after having not done much to promote it since its original launch in april ..

So just give us some time and you might just see the TCF become the biggest Tacloban Forum around ...

I understand this sentiment exactly. Next time around, my wife and I will probably buy a motorcycle and then leave it with her family to use when we're not there, so we are in control of when to stop. I don't think I'd want to drive a car there personally, if you got into an accident, I suspect the foreigner will be "at fault" ;)

Last time I got so sick of dealing with drivers trying to find an honest "non-kano price". We usually offered 100 per hour for tricycle if they paid for gas (lots of stops, we weren't expecting them to drive full speed for all those hours using gas)... and for multicab, we gave 100 per hour and we paid for the gas. It took a bit of work to find someone to do it for that price...many just expected they hit the lottery when they saw a foreigner hehe. First thing we did is fill the tank, wrote down that amount. Then we drove all day, putting in gas as needed. We filled the tank at the end of the day, then subtracted the first amount (paid for gas) from the total we owed them for the day.

How can we be at fault as we are not the ones that learnt to drive on the wrong side of the road in the 1st place. On my last trip i had a hire car in manila and it did take me some getting used to driving on the wrong side of the road and to for get about the rules about driving. If you let 1 person in to your lane you have just let 5 in as every one just jumps in so fast. I have myself a car booked again for when in manila for the 1st part of my stay untill leaving for tacloban as i have plans to get out and see lots of places again and more than i have seen in the last time i was there. I have working GPS maps for manila now so getting lost will not be so hard even with a local with you dont help that much if they dont drive them self and they dont even know the road rules if they even have them.
