SOS CHILDREN'S VILLAGE FUN WALK:
"Walk for a Child"“Walk for a Child” fun on Sunday (October 4, 2009) will be highlighted in this month long celebrations for children and in preparation for its center anniversary.
This activity, according to Alejandro Carenea, SOS assistant administrator, will focus on it’s fund raising aiming to achieve and provide the basic needs and educational needs of the children at the same time to promote the SOS Children’s Village of Tacloban.
This is participated by EVSU, ABE International, ACLC, UP, NSTP Students, Bureau of Fire Protection, Private Employees, by Clubs and An Waray.
According to Ms. Glenda Orejola, SOS public and fund raising head, this activity has a registration of P150.00 plus T-shirt and P75.00 for snacks. They will be all receiving certificates of participation.
The proceeds will benefit the needs of the children and developmental activities of the center, Orejola added.
SOS Children’s Village was founded on May 22, 1949 by an Austrian Dr. German Gmeiner. It was funded internationally with local counterpart. It caters to orphaned, abandoned and neglected children with utmost family-based care. It has 119 population at present with 10 poster parents (Mother/Nanay) and they have numerous graduates produced. The center accepts 0 - 10 of age for siblings and singles is 3 -10 of age, this was according to SOS Social Worker Erlenda Bayani.
In their 40 years of existence, the SOS truly serves as a “place for orphaned, abandoned and neglected children or children in extreme difficult circumstances to belong to a home and a family; where a competent and responsible SOS mother and SOS co-workers provide unconditional love and inspiration support and encouragement for these children to take their place in society enriched with their God-given talents, and contribute their share to the progress of the human family.
