City gov't to improve garbage collectionby Glenda B. Sabenorio
TACLOBAN CITY - The city government here is set to improve the recently assumptive operation and management of garbage collection to fully maintain the pleasant look and cleanliness of Tacloban.
"As far as the garbage is concerned, it is apparent that the city is now nice to look at, compared to previous times. Thus, the city government needs to plan and allocate budget to uphold and uplift the operation," Jonathan Hijada, department head of City Environment and Natural Resources, said.
Hijada stressed that the city still needs to have additional garbage trucks to accommodate the garbage of the city including those in remote barangays, and to double the operation of garbage collection.
Meanwhile, Hijada informed that the "No segregation, No Collection Policy" will not be implemented as of this time, since there is a need for additional garbage trucks to collect the biodegradable and non-biodegradable garbage.
However, he emphasized that Mayor Alfred Romualdez is attending this planned improvement of garbage collection through the incoming project, which is the Solid Waste Management.
Moreover, Hijada urged the residents of Tacloban for a total cooperation and participation on proper waste disposal.
