May 6 to June 27 2009 - at the City Engineer’s Office (CEO) gym, Tacloban City 2nd Mayor Alfred Cup Inter-barangay Basketball Tournament 2009
The City Sports Office will hold an inter-barangay basketball tournament dubbed as the 2nd Mayor Alfred Cup 2009 from May 6-June 27 in this city.
City Sports Director Joel Bugho said that the tournament reels off Monday at the City Engineer’s Office (CEO) gym with City Mayor Alfred Romualdez gracing the opening ceremonies.
The participating teams will parade around the city, and after that, there will be a short opening program that will be attended by no less than the Mayor himself.
Based on the tournament format, the participating teams will first compete against each other by area. The top team from each of the ten areas in the city will then advance and compete with each other for the championship crown and P37, 000 in cash prizes.
A total of P37, 000 in cash prizes will go to the winners. Tournament Champion P15, 000 + Trophy 2nd place P10, 000 + Trophy 3rd place P7, 000 + Trophy 4th place P5, 000 + Trophy
70 teams have already registered their participation in the upcoming tournament.
The tournament will be held as part of the incoming fiesta celebration activities and is meant to encourage youths in the barangays to actively involve in sports activities.
