“Little Miss Tacloban 2009” Contest

The City of Tacloban showcases its best young talents on June 21 via the Search for Little Miss Tacloban 2009 at the Tacloban City Astrodome.

To be held as part of the incoming Sangyaw Festival and sponsored by the City Government, the Search aims to develop young girls into well-rounded children, who will be aware of their God-given talents and their rights as children.

Twelve pretty and talented young girls from different barangays and day care centers in this city are vying for this year’s Little Miss Tacloban title.


Among the twelve finalists are:

* Stephanie Ocaña (Brgy. 83)
* Zyndel Hurley Bidua (Brgy. 92)
* Blue Reugine Nicolas (Brgy. 56)
* Cassandra Negro (Brgy. 84)
* Angel Audrey Sagawa (Brgy. 110)
* Dorothy Fabian (Brgy. 50)
* R-iann Gabrielle Sebastian (Brgy. 56-A)
* Cheyenne Gill Laus (Brgy. 96)
* Cristina Pearl Hipolito (Brgy. 3)
* Janice Torrefiel (Brgy. 64)
* Yra Nicole Delbo (Youngfield)


According to City Councilor Cristina Gonzales-Romualdez, chairwoman of the Search Committee, all have passed the initial qualifications required by the search organizers.


A total of P80,000 in cash prizes will go to the winners:
1st place P20, 000
2nd place P15,000
3rd place P10,000
4th place P5,000
The non-wining candidates will each receive P2,000 consolation prize.


Aside from the major title, special awards would also be given to deserving candidates. These awards include “Miss Talent,” “Miss Photogenic,” and “Miss Congeniality.”

It was learned that to add glitter and flavor to the event, the city government has invited TV personality Makisig Morales to serenade the candidates during the pageant night.

Dubbed as the Prince of Hearts in the TV reality-show Little Big Star, Morales is a child performer that is in contract with Star Records. He is the lead singer of the youngest boy band Mak and the Dudes which sings retro songs. As a child actor, he rose to fame through the TV fantaserye, Super Inggo, where he played the lead role.

Bidua wins Little Miss Tacloban title

TACLOBAN CITY - Zyndel Hurly Bidua, a beauteous five-year-old from this city, bested 11 other contestants to win the Search for Little Miss Tacloban 2009, which was held Sunday, June 21, at the Tacloban City Astrodome.

Bidua, who represented Barangay 92 (Apitong), got the nod of the panel of judges headed by Carlos Molo to win the coveted plum.

City Councilor Cristina Gonzales-Romualdez crowned the winner and delivered a short message during the pageant night.

Aside from winning the title, Bidua also copped the Darling of the Press special award.

The other winners of the search were Cheyenne Gill Laus of Brgy. 96 (Calanipawan), 1st runner-up; Dorothy Fabian of Brgy. 50, 2nd runner-up; and Christine Pearl Hipolito Upper Nula-Tule, 3rd runner-up.

For winning the search Bidua received P20, 000, Laus P15, 000, Fabian P10, 000, while Hipolito brought home P5, 000 cash prize from the organizers.

Makisig Morales, who is popularly known as “Super Inggo” in showbiz, serenaded the 12 candidates during the pageant, which was aimed at developing young girls into well-rounded children, who will be aware of their God-given talents and their rights as children

The event, which was held as part of the Sangyaw Festival, was sponsored by the City Government of Tacloban headed by City Mayor Alfred Romualdez, Globe, San Miguel Corporation, Coca, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), Digital Gleen, Cristina’s Saloon and Spa, Fil-Products, and Leyte Samar Daily Express.

Also sponsoring the pageant were Love Radio, Star FM, City Colours Center, Leila’s Collection, Ruby Star Enterprises, Robinsons Place Tacloban, Camella Leyte, Postal Savings Bank, Duptours, Dana Souvenirs and Flower Shop, Achshop Flowers, Jimm’s Coffee, Balloon Station, Natasha, Jollibee Robinsons Place, Royale Business Club, International, Nenas Trading, and Rafael’s Farm.
