Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Job Fair

The Department of Public Works and Highways is set to conduct a simultaneous Jobs Fairs at the DPWH Central Office and in all the 16 Regional Offices on Monday, February 23, 2009.

The Jobs Fair will start at 8:00 o'clock in the morning. The jobseekers, particularly those in the construction field, may file their application at the booths of constructors at the DPWH grounds.

The DPWH will serve as the conduit between the contractors and the job applicants. The DPWH will assess the job seeker's capabilities and work assignment and match them with the needs of the contractors.

The job openings will be for civil engineers, foremen, surveyors, masons, painters, steelmen, operators of heavy equipment, drivers, carpenters, and other positions. The DPWH will also hire 27,222 people every month from the Out-of-School Youth Serving Toward Economic Recovery (OYSTER) to work as street sweepers, roadside, traffic, and shoulder maintenance crew.

With thousands of government infrastructure projects being implemented nationwide, private constructors are in need of construction foremen, skilled workers, masons, heavy equipment operators, dump truck drivers, steelman, civil engineers, and other construction related jobs. The workers who will be employed will construct, maintain, repair and rehabilitate 29,925.96 kilometers of national roads. They will build and fix existing bridges, school buildings, farm-to-market roads and flood control projects.

Job seekers flock DPWH jobs fair in Leyte

PALO, LEYTE – More than a hundred job seekers went to the regional office of Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the hope of finding jobs that could sustain them in this times of crisis.

Pedicab driver Billy Nazaret, was among the hopefuls. He found a construction job that was just near Palo vicinity from the list of job openings displayed outside the DPWH jobs fair booth.

“This could be one way of helping my family at these hard times,” he said.

Higinio Homeres, DPWH Human Resource Officer III, said applicants who would be hired by the various construction companies would receive the daily minimum wage imposed by the regional wage boards.

“But that may also vary according to their skill and the company that they will be employed with,” he added.

DPWH said it is in need of engineers, masons, steel man, and other construction workers for the various infrastructure projects that the office will implement in the region.

Engineering districts would also open jobs fair on Wednesday to accommodate jobseekers in various provinces.
